While it certainly was missed, our goal for the
break was to give our dinner attendees a rest from
expenses during these challenging economic
times. I am very pleased to announce that we
will resume our dinner tradition at a new venue
in 2010, the iconic Plaza Hotel in New York!
In August, Peggy Campbell and I visited several
AGS jewelers in Little Rock Ark., all of which
appeared to be doing a robust business. It was
very encouraging to see more customers in
their stores than salespeople. Later in our visit,
I presented at the Arkansas Jewelers Association
conference and then attended an Arkla/Dixie AGS
guild meeting organized by Laura Stanley, CGA.
I truly enjoyed my time visiting with members
in Arkansas.
I decided to celebrate my 16-year anniversary
with AGS by completing the requirements for
earning the title of Registered Jeweler. My goal
is to create a deeper connection with the members
that we serve here at headquarters. Well, I've
made it past the Accredited Jewelry Professional
designation, passed the one-week GIA Diamond
Grading Lab and I am now half-way through
the AGS Way course. The AGS Way course is
a great reminder of the importance of the role
AGS serves in our industry, as well as the many
advantages of membership. Consumers want
to buy from someone who is knowledgeable
and honest, and AGS membership signifies just
that. I hope to see many of you at the Boston
Conclave Titleholder's Lunch, where I plan to
be one of the Society's many new titleholders!

The closing of the Rainbow Room this summer gave
us the opportunity to take a one-year hiatus from
our annual Circle of Distinction awards dinner.
